Private Testosterone Test

Because your health matters.

Testosterone is a key hormone in men, supporting sperm production, sex drive, bone density, muscle strength, and overall vitality. Women also have lower levels, which play an important role in hormone balance and other bodily functions.

A private testosterone test can identify unusually high or low levels, which may indicate hormonal or adrenal issues. It’s also useful for monitoring changes over time or the effects of medications that could impact your testosterone.

Our private Testosterone Test is quick, accurate, and convenient. It can be booked on its own or added to a full body health check to personalise your assessment.

What is a private testosterone test?

A testosterone test measures the level of testosterone in your blood. This key hormone plays a vital role in men’s health, supporting sex drive, fertility, muscle strength, bone mass, and overall wellbeing.

Women also produce small amounts of testosterone, which helps maintain hormonal balance.

Testosterone is mainly produced in the testicles in men, and in the ovaries and adrenal glands in women. Abnormal levels can indicate hormonal or endocrine issues and may warrant further investigation.

Why take a testosterone test?

Testing is useful if you experience symptoms of low or high testosterone, or if you’ve previously had irregular results or take medications that may affect your levels.

For men, low testosterone may cause:

  • Low sex drive or impotence

  • Fatigue or weakness

  • Loss of body hair or reduced testicle size

  • Skin changes or breast growth

High testosterone in men (often linked to steroid use) may cause:

  • Acne

  • Mood swings

  • Weight gain

For women, high testosterone may indicate PCOS and can cause:

  • Facial hair or acne

  • Deepening of voice

  • Infertility

Low testosterone in women may cause:

  • Low sex drive or energy

  • Loss of strength

  • Irregular periods

  • Mood changes

What does the test involve?

A testosterone test involves taking a blood sample to check the levels of the hormone in your blood. The blood sample must be taken in the morning, as testosterone levels are usually highest earlier in the day.

A trained health assessment specialist will take a blood sample from a vein in your arm using a small needle. Once the needle is inserted, a small amount of blood is collected into a test tube, which is then sent to a lab for testing. This procedure typically takes only a few minutes.

Please note: this blood sample must be taken in the morning before 11am.

A simple blood test is performed to test testosterone levels in the blood. The blood test must be carried out in the morning as this is when testosterone levels are highest.

At Bluecrest, we offer testosterone tests at high quality venues across the UK and Ireland. Simply find a location near you and book an appointment with a health assessment specialist.

Testosterone tests are best carried out in the morning when your testosterone levels are highest. Some providers may recommend fasting before the test, so it is best to check with your chosen provider.

Fasting means not eating or drinking anything but water for anywhere between 8 to 12 hours before a blood test. You can usually take any medications you normally would in the morning before your test.

If you book a private testosterone blood test with Bluecrest, full details of any preparation required prior to testing, including fasting will be provided to ensure we are able to provide accurate results.

Your test results and other readings will each be given a ‘flag’ of a different colour: green, amber or red. Green results are within the recommended range for your age and sex; amber results are slightly outside what we'd normally expect; and red results are further outside the norm.

Where a result is amber or red, we'll give follow-up advice on what to do next - whether that's making lifestyle changes, simply monitoring the result, or visiting your doctor for further investigation.

If there are any critical results discovered by our laboratory, we will contact you immediately, so you won’t need to wait for your full Results Report to arrive to take appropriate action.

A private testosterone test is suitable for anyone who may be concerned that their hormone levels are abnormal.

Although testosterone is primarily considered a ‘male hormone’ and tests may be more common for males, women do have lower levels of testosterone, and abnormal levels can indicate health problems like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

Full preparation instructions will be provided in writing when you book your appointment. These instructions will include information on which foods to avoid and more. Additionally, it is important that you drink enough water before the test.

As some medications can affect your test results, you will need to inform us about any medicines or supplements you are currently taking. Please do not stop taking your medications unless directed to.

Please note: this blood sample must be taken in the morning before 11am.

At home Testosterone Tests, although a practical option, will not give you the most complete results. With Bluecrest Wellness, you can choose a test location close to home, making our testosterone tests easily accessible and offering comprehensive results.
