Processing times vary by test, with some results accessible on the dashboard in as little as three days. What is a urinalysis test?
A urinalysis test checks a sample of your urine for early signs of health problems. It can also help monitor an existing condition over time.
Your kidneys make urine as they filter waste and excess water from your blood. That means what's in your urine can show how well your kidneys are working. It can also show signs of infection or inflammation in your urinary tract, and how your body is handling sugar.
Your test combines two types of analysis:
Chemical testing for pH, protein, glucose, ketones, blood and urobilinogen Cell and particle analysis for red blood cells, white blood cells, casts, epithelial cells and crystals
Together, these give a useful snapshot of your kidney and urinary health. If anything needs a closer look, your results will explain what to do next.
Why take a urinalysis test?
A urinalysis is a simple way to check how your kidneys and urinary tract are working, and how your body is handling sugar. It can help you:

It's a useful check if you want to understand your health better and catch possible problems early.
If you have symptoms such as blood in your urine, pain when you pee, need to pee much more often than usual, or have pain in your back or side, speak to your GP. These symptoms need to be properly assessed, and a screening test isn't a substitute for that.
What is tested for in a urinalysis?
Your urinalysis looks at your sample in two ways. It checks for early signs of kidney problems, infection or inflammation, and raised blood sugar.
Chemical testing
A test strip checks your urine for:
- pH: how acidic or alkaline your urine is
- Protein: raised levels can be an early sign of kidney strain
- Glucose: sugar in your urine can mean your blood sugar is higher than it should be
- Ketones: produced when your body burns fat for energy, for example during fasting or with poorly controlled diabetes
- Blood: traces of blood too small to see
- Urobilinogen: made when old red blood cells are broken down. Levels outside the expected range may mean your liver or red blood cells need a closer look
Cell and particle analysis
Your sample is also checked for:
- Red blood cells: these may be linked to infection, inflammation, stones or other conditions
- White blood cells: a raised count can be a sign of infection or inflammation
- Casts: tiny particles formed in the kidneys. Some types are normal, while others can mean your kidneys need further checks
- Epithelial cells: cells from the lining of your urinary tract. Small numbers are normal
- Crystals: formed from minerals in your urine. Some types are linked to a higher chance of kidney stones

FAQs
Our Urinalysis Test can be carried out at home using a self-collection kit with clear instructions on how to collect a urine sample.
Your results will be given a ‘flag’ of a different colour: green, amber or red. Green results are within the recommended range for your age and sex; amber results are slightly outside what we'd normally expect; and red results are further outside the norm.
Where a result is amber or red, we'll give follow-up advice on what to do next - whether that's making lifestyle changes, simply monitoring the result, or visiting your doctor for further investigation.

Along with your at-home self-collection kit, you will find clear instructions on how to easily take a urine sample. Before collecting your sample, read through the instructions and make sure you wash your hands thoroughly. Simply collect a small sample midstream as you feel the urge to pass urine. Once you have the sample, follow the instructions to return it for analysis.
