1. Health Assessments don’t work
If you’re looking to help a workforce, get healthier and stay well, evidence shows that health assessments DO actually work. When people know more about their body and what’s going on with their health, they often make different lifestyle choices to look after themselves.
Our research shows that after getting their test results, 38% of Bluecrest Wellness customers go on to lose weight, 37% start exercising more, 32% start eating healthier and 14% cut back on alcohol. All these simple changes are key in avoiding and alleviating multiple serious health conditions – from heart disease to diabetes, kidney and liver problems to cancers of all types.
2. Health Assessments don’t check for the important stuff
Ours do. Bluecrest Wellness health assessments include 54 to 104 blood readings, including cholesterol, diabetes, immune system, bone health as well as tests for lung and kidney function, heart health, heart rhythm, body composition and blood pressure. We also have an early cancer add on for men and women that covers things like stomach, bowel, prostate, and cervical cancer.
3. We’ve got a cash plan / health insurance already so we don’t need health assessments
Having health benefits can make a real difference to sickness absence rates, staff engagement and retention, and give organisations a competitive advantage. But preventative health can be the missing link.
Things like health insurance or cash-back plans for medical support don’t kick in until after people are sick or suffering with a long-term chronic condition. Health assessments work WITH other benefits, and help people live well and stay well.
4. No one actually wants a health assessment, or bothers to go to them
Actually, health assessments are really popular. With NHS waiting lists at an all-time high, people are looking for that extra peace of mind and reassurance. And anecdotally, we find most businesses we work with have a 64% take-up rate.
We help support businesses to explain exactly what employees are getting - and why it’s worth doing - with targeted, tailored communications. We also make attending our assessments really easy by partnering with top hotels and centres across the UK and Ireland, we offer convenient health assessments in central locations with great amenities and easy access. Appointments as close as 20 minutes away, whether you're at work or home. Alternatively, we also work with organisations to set up on-site clinics and run assessment days in their own buildings.
5. Health Assessments aren’t delivered by proper medical professionals
Bluecrest Wellness has a dedicated team of health assessment specialists (HAS) who are fully trained to conduct health assessments. We currently have around 118 HAS working throughout the country. With many holding degrees in sport and exercise science. Some were previously phlebotomists (some have been taking bloods for many years before coming to Bluecrest), and we also have people who were previously a midwife, amongst other health-related professions. Each adding their unique expertise.
6. Health Assessment tests aren’t accurate
We’re really proud of our suite of tests which are approved by our Board and our chief Medical Officer Dr Toby Donati, and make sure we’re keeping up with the latest screening and medical developments.
7. Health Assessments are expensive Like a regular eye examination or dental check-up, people often have a health assessment once a year. Unlike health insurance, our health assessment packages price point means it’s viable for many organisations to offer health assessments to every employee, not just those in leadership roles.
At Bluecrest Wellness our comprehensive business packages start at just £99. So, for less than businesses might spend per employee on an Xmas and summer party, they can give someone a real, tangible and highly valued health benefit that could lead drive behaviour changes and prevention, that reduces the costs of private medical insurance and occupational health services.
8. Health assessments just make people worry, and end up at their GP anyway
People are already worried – in particular about the NHS’s ability to catch them when they fall. We believe information is power, and that people deserve to be able to get information and be in control of their own health.
Sometimes, waiting for results might be worrying – but usually because people already have some concerns. Online results come through within days, and we don’t leave people to stew on them. Everyone has access to our GP helpline, where real doctors can talk them through their results and any amber or red flags.
If necessary, they’ll suggest someone take their report and results to their own GP so they can move things forward – possibly to re-test or see a specialist. We find that most hard-pushed GPs are pleased to get a head start on investigations, and most patients are grateful to get the attention they need to rule things out - or sort things out.
9. Health assessments don’t make a difference
We know health assessments make a difference, because we hear from customers who literally tell us Bluecrest Wellness has saved their lives. Like Peter, who had no idea he had a serious heart condition. Or Natasha, who’s health assessor spotted her DVT and got her hospital after she’d been dismissed by her GP.
Health assessments can and do save lives, improve people’s health – and improve organisations as a result.
