What does Bluecrest Wellness do at a health assessment?

Our health checks consist of a series of non-invasive tests and examinations that give you an overview of your current health status. Depending on the tests or package you have chosen, your appointment will take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes and include some or all of the following:

1. Background information

Your Certified Healthcare professional will ask a series of straightforward questions relating to your health and lifestyle. Your answers are strictly private and confidential, and will be used in the context of analysing your results.

2. Blood sample

In order to test a vast array of health markers, a small sample of blood needs to be drawn from your inner arm with a needle. This is undertaken by one of our trained and qualified phlebotomists, and the process is quick and painless for most. The full procedure normally follows the following steps:

  • You will be asked to sit or lie down.
  • A tourniquet is tightened around your arm to increase blood volume in your veins.
  • The injection site is wiped with an alcohol solution to clean the area and avoid any infection risks.
  • A needle is inserted to draw blood, which is taken from the vein and collected inside a syringe or vial. Minimal discomfort may be experienced.
  • The needle is removed, and cotton wool will be pressed against the injection site to minimise bleeding.
  • An adhesive dressing is applied to finish the procedure. Minor bruising may occur in the next day or two.

3. ECG (Electrocardiogram)

A 6-lead ECG test will be used to record the trace of your heart rhythm, which will then be reviewed by accredited cardiac consultant at our specialist Cardiology Laboratory. The process is quick and simple:

  • You will be asked to lie down.
  • 6 small sticky sensors will be attached to your arms, legs and chest.
  • The ECG recording machine will record your heart rhythm while you simply lie down and breathe normally.
  • The recording stops after approximately one minute, and the sensors are removed.

4. Lung Function Test

Your lung function will be assessed with a quick test that involves breathing out into a recording device. All you will be asked to do it to take a deep breath and then breathe out as much air as possible into the tube with one powerful and long outbreath.

5. Biometric Analysis

Your biometric analysis is quick and simple, and involves two simple steps:

  • Your height will be measured.
  • A smart scale will be used to assess your weight as well as other parameters such as fat percentage and muscle mass.

All of the above tests allow us to assess various aspects of your health from artery health, heart rhythm (resting ECG), and body composition, through to biochemistry checks for liver disease, kidney function, cardiovascular health, diabetes, gout and more. You will not need to get undressed during your appointment, but you will be asked to take off your shoes and socks for the biometric analysis. Full preparation instructions will be provided when you book your appointment.

How experienced are the healthcare professionals at Bluecrest Wellness?

Our friendly Health Assessment Specialists are fully trained in Phlebotomy (blood-taking) and all have varying backgrounds in the health and wellbeing sector. Some are trained Nurses, whilst others hold Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in subjects including Sports Science, Fitness, Nutrition, Dietetics, Physiology and Physiotherapy.

Additional training is undertaken in-house to ensure all of our staff meets the high level of competence we require. All of our medical professionals are consistently monitored to ensure continued accuracy and legitimacy. As we are ISO 9001 registered, our standards are also monitored by regulating bodies and are recognised worldwide.

How accurate is a Bluecrest Wellness test?

Bluecrest has state of the art mobile screening equipment, which allows us to run mobile clinics across the UK and Ireland whilst maintaining the highest level of results accuracy.

We have been able to maintain the accuracy and quality of results throughout the years with regular internal checks and training sessions, in addition to continual auditing by regulatory bodies. The laboratory specialists analysing your results are all highly experienced, with the samples and data of over 440,000 health checks scrutinised and accurately depicted. The combination of accreditations held by us (ISO 9001 registered and CQC registered) and our laboratory (UKAS, CPA, ISO 15189 and ISO9001/2000 accredited) mean you can really trust the quality of your results.

While our health assessments cannot diagnose medical conditions, they can highlight hidden health risks before they become more serious. Where a serious risk is identified, we will contact you immediately to ensure you can take appropriate action as soon as possible. Where a less serious risk is identified, we give clear recommendations on what you should do next, empowering you with the knowledge to proactively manage your health. All our tests and follow-up recommendations are regularly reviewed by our Medical Panel to ensure the highest clinical accuracy.

Who analyses and delivers my results?

Your blood samples and other readings will be analysed by the largest independent laboratory in the UK, The Doctors Laboratory (TDL). TDL are UKAS, CPA and ISO 15189 accredited experts with over 30 years’ experience in laboratory and cardiology services, including the analysis of all of our health checks. Once TDL have analysed your samples and readings, your test results are sent securely to our in-house Results team, who compile your personalised Results Report.

Your results report will be sent by post, and you will also get access to a digital version via Bluecrest Wellness’ online results platform called My Wellness. Each result will be given a green, amber or red flag so you can easily see your areas for improvement. A green flag means your result is within the normal range; amber means the result is slightly outside of the normal range; and red means your result is further outside of the normal range. Your report explains each of your test results in detail in a clear, jargon-free way; in addition to setting out relevant recommendations to improve your health in line with your background information and test results.

Certain packages also include a consultation via phone or webcam with registered GP, CBT practitioner and/or Nutritionist.
