Active B12 Blood Test

Check your body’s active B12 levels with a quick, accurate blood test. Understand fatigue, low energy, or deficiency risks and get detailed, easy to read results.

Because your health matters.

An Active B12 Blood Test checks the level of B12 your body can actually use. It measures the active form of the vitamin, which gives a clearer picture of your B12 status than a standard test. This is helpful if you have symptoms like low energy, poor concentration or tingling sensations, or if you want to understand more about your overall wellbeing.

Blood tests with Bluecrest Wellness are quick, clinically safe and non-invasive. Most appointments take around 20 to 30 minutes. With over 350 testing venues across England and Ireland, you can choose a date, time and location that suits you.

The Active B12 Blood Test is included in many of our private health checks. You can also add it as an individual extra to a wide range of our full body health packages.

What is an Active B12 Blood Test?

An Active B12 Blood Test is a clinical blood test that measures the level of B12 your body can use. It specifically checks the active form of the vitamin, known as holotranscobalamin. This gives a clearer picture of your B12 status than a standard total B12 test and can help identify issues linked with fatigue, low mood or changes in concentration.

At Bluecrest Wellness, our Active B12 test analyses the key marker your body relies on for healthy red blood cell formation and normal nerve function.

Your result will show the level of active B12 circulating in your bloodstream, helping you understand whether your body has what it needs to support energy production and general wellbeing.

Discover the benefits of an Active B12 Blood Test

An Active B12 Blood Test can play an important role in understanding your energy levels, cognitive health and general wellbeing. It provides clear insight into the form of B12 your body can actually use, helping you take meaningful steps to support your health.

Consider an Active B12 test to:

  • Understand whether low active B12 could be contributing to fatigue or low mood

  • Check if your body is absorbing B12 properly

  • Identify early signs of B12 deficiency before symptoms progress

  • Explore possible causes of tingling, unsteadiness or concentration problems

  • Monitor your B12 status if you follow a vegetarian or vegan diet

  • Review levels if you take long term medications that affect absorption

What does an Active B12 Blood Test look for?

An Active B12 Blood Test is a precise blood examination that measures the biologically active form of vitamin B12 in your body - the form your cells can actually use. Low levels can indicate a deficiency that may lead to fatigue, neurological issues, or anemia, even if total B12 levels appear normal.

For individuals experiencing low energy, tingling sensations, memory difficulties, or those at higher risk of deficiency (such as older adults or those on certain medications), regular Active B12 testing can help track levels and guide dietary or supplement choices.

Our comprehensive private health assessments include all the tests you need to take a proactive approach to your wellbeing. You can add an Active B12 Blood Test to any of our existing health packages. Simply book an existing package and call our team before your appointment.

Your results explained in detail

Your digital Results Report explains each one of your test results in detail, with no confusing medical jargon. You’ll receive the actual reading for every test we've run, with each result given a 'flag' of green, amber or red.

Green results are within the recommended range for your age and sex; amber results are a little outside what we'd normally expect; and red results are further outside the norm.

Where a result is amber or red, we'll give follow-up advice on what to do next - whether that's making lifestyle changes, simply monitoring the result, or visiting a doctor for further investigation.

FAQs

All our tests are carried out in person by trained health assessment specialists at one of our 350 venues across the UK and Ireland. An in-person test ensures accuracy and that your sample reaches the laboratory quickly, giving you your results faster.

Your sample is analysed by one of the leading laboratories in the UK, with whom we have long-standing partnerships. Once analysed, your results are securely sent to our in-house Results team who compile your personalised Results Report.

Reference ranges for Active B12 can vary slightly depending on the laboratory. Your personalised Results Report will include your values and explain what they mean for you. Interpretation should always be carried out by a healthcare professional.

Your results will receive a colour-coded flag: green, amber or red.

  • Green means your results are within the recommended range.
