Blood Pressure Test
Why Take a Blood Pressure Test?
A Blood Pressure Test is a simple, non-invasive way to check if your blood pressure is in a healthy range. High blood pressure (hypertension) often has no symptoms but increases your risk of heart disease, stroke and kidney problems. Regular testing helps with early detection and management, giving you peace of mind and the chance to act early.
-

How It Works

1. Book your appointment
Choose from our Full Health MOTs, or add a Blood Pressure Test to any package.
2. Attend your test
A trained Health Assessment Specialist places a cuff around your upper arm. The device (sphygmomanometer) measures both systolic (when your heart beats) and diastolic (when your heart rests) pressure.
3. Get your results
Your reading is recorded in millimetres of mercury (mmHg) and explained clearly, so you know whether your blood pressure is healthy or needs attention.
Understanding Blood Pressure Readings
Blood pressure is shown as two numbers:
-
Systolic pressure – pressure when your heart beats and pushes blood out
-
Diastolic pressure – pressure when your heart rests between beats
Normal range: 90/60 mmHg to 120/80 mmHg
High blood pressure: 140/90 mmHg or above
Why Test Your Blood Pressure?
High blood pressure is known as the “silent killer” because it rarely causes symptoms but can lead to serious health problems if left untreated, including:
-
Heart disease – higher risk of heart attack and heart failure
-
Stroke – damage to blood vessels in the brain
-
Kidney disease – harm to the kidney’s filtering system
-
Dementia – some studies link hypertension to a greater risk of dementia
Importance of Regular Monitoring
-
Adults over 40 should check blood pressure at least every five years
-
More frequent checks are recommended if you’re younger but have risk factors such as family history, being overweight or smoking
-
Regular testing ensures early detection and better long-term health outcomes
Lifestyle Tips to Support Healthy Blood Pressure
Alongside regular monitoring, these changes can help:
-
Reduce salt intake and eat more fruit and vegetables
-
Exercise regularly to maintain a healthy weight
-
Limit alcohol consumption
-
Avoid smoking
