Gluten allergy (Coeliac disease) is a common condition in which gluten found in wheat, barley and rye triggers an immune reaction and chronic inflammation of the small intestine. The inflammation affects the absorption of a number of essential nutrients including Calcium, Vitamins D and B12, Folate and Ferritin.

Gluten allergy classically gives gastrointestinal symptoms including diarrhoea, indigestion, bloating, stomach pain and constipation. However, as it can present itself in more subtle ways such as fatigue, weight loss, anaemia or an itchy rash, it often remains undiagnosed.
