Take a heart rhythm check because your health matters.
A private heart rhythm check, also called an electrocardiogram (ECG), measures your heart’s electrical activity, rhythm and rate. At Bluecrest, we use 6-lead ECGs, which are quick, non-invasive and easy to perform outside of a clinical setting.
While 6-lead ECGs aren’t always fully diagnostic on their own, they provide valuable insights and can highlight potential issues, helping guide you to follow-up with your doctor for a full 12-lead ECG if needed.
These checks are particularly useful for detecting heart rhythm abnormalities such as atrial fibrillation, a major risk factor for stroke.
Our private heart rhythm check is a safe, convenient, and accurate way to monitor your heart health. It can be booked individually or added to any full-body health check package.

What is a heart rhythm check?
A heart rhythm check, also known as an ECG, is a safe, non-invasive test that measures your heart’s electrical activity, rate, and rhythm. It provides a clear picture of how your heart is functioning and can help spot potential issues early.
ECGs record the signals your heart produces as it pumps blood. These readings are interpreted by specialists to detect abnormalities and can highlight a range of heart conditions, including:
-
Arrhythmias (fast, slow, or irregular heartbeats)
-
Angina or chest pain
-
Heart defects or structural issues
-
Heart attack or coronary artery disease
-
Heart valve problems
Why have a heart rhythm check?
A heart rhythm check offers reassurance and early detection, even before symptoms appear. It’s particularly recommended if you experience:
-
Chest pain or palpitations
-
Shortness of breath
-
Dizziness or fatigue
-
Pre-surgery or ongoing treatment requiring heart monitoring
It’s also valuable if you have risk factors such as:
-
High blood pressure, cholesterol, or diabetes
-
Smoking or excessive alcohol intake
-
Overweight or obesity
-
Family history of heart conditions
-
Low physical activity or poor diet
Understanding your heart rhythm can help you take proactive steps to reduce your risk and improve heart health.

How is a heart rhythm check done?
A Health Assessment Specialist uses a 6-lead ECG to record your heart’s electrical signals. The process is quick and simple:
-
Remove shoes and socks for electrode placement on your ankles and arms.
-
Lie back and relax while electrodes detect your heart’s activity.
-
Signals are transmitted to an ECG machine and sent to our specialist lab for interpretation.
The test takes just minutes, is painless and provides valuable insights into your heart rate and rhythm.

FAQs
A heart rhythm check is carried out by a Health Assessment Specialist and only takes around 15 minutes to complete.
A heart rhythm check is a safe, painless, and non-invasive procedure that measures the rhythm of your heart and electrical activity. There is no electricity sent through your body during the test.
Your test results and other readings will each be given a ‘flag’ of a different colour: green, amber or red. Green results are within the recommended range for your age and sex; amber results are slightly outside what we'd normally expect; and red results are further outside the norm.
Where a result is amber or red, it will be presented in your results report we'll give follow-up advice on what to do next - whether that's making lifestyle changes, simply monitoring the result, or visiting your doctor for further investigation with a 12 lead diagnostic ECG.
If there are any critical results discovered by our laboratory, we will contact you immediately, so you won’t need to wait for your full Results Report to arrive to take appropriate action.
You may need a heart rhythm check if you are experiencing:
