Inflammatory Profile

Because your health matters.

The Inflammatory Profile is designed to provide you with valuable insights into your overall health and wellbeing. By analysing key inflammation biomarkers such as high sensitivity C reactive protein (hsCRP), ferritin and grip strength, we can assess your body's inflammatory status and potential for longevity.

Chronic inflammation can increase over time, referred to as "inflammaging," and is a significant factor in premature ageing and the development of age-related diseases.

Inflammation drives many chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and certain cancers. Understanding your inflammation levels can help you take proactive steps to improve your health. A combination of genetic factors, lifestyle and environmental factors determine likely longevity.

Our goal is to equip you with actionable information to make informed decisions about your health and lifestyle.

What are inflammation markers in a blood test?

Inflammation markers in a blood test, like high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) and ferritin, provide an assessment of your body's inflammatory status. Elevated levels of these biomarkers can indicate underlying inflammation, which may be associated with various health issues such as infections, autoimmune conditions or cardiovascular disease. These tests offer a clear picture of your health, helping detect any potential concerns early.

What does it mean when your blood profile shows

inflammation?

If your blood tests indicate inflammation, it may indicate the presence of chronic inflammation, a key factor in the development of many long-term conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and certain cancers.

Our Inflammatory Profile helps you understand your inflammation levels, enabling you to take proactive measures to manage your health and reduce your risk of chronic diseases, ultimately supporting a longer, healthier life.

Who should consider this

test?

Blood tests for inflammation are ideal for:

  • Individuals with a family history of heart disease or stroke.
  • Those interested in optimising their overall health, brain health, cardiovascular health and longevity

The tests included in the Inflammatory Profile can help you identify and address underlying issues that might be contributing to certain symptoms or conditions:

  • Individuals with a family history of heart disease or stroke: Customers who have increased risk of cardiovascular disease including a family history of heart disease and strokes. Customers with high blood pressure or cholesterol.
  • Persistent fatigue – Inflammation and imbalanced biomarkers, like ferritin can lead to low energy and constant tiredness.
  • Unexplained aches and pains – Chronic inflammation, detectable through high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), might be the reason behind ongoing joint or muscle discomfort.
  • Difficulty recovering from exercise or illness – Elevated inflammation or poor fatty acid balance could slow down your body’s ability to heal and repair itself.
  • Frequent colds or infections – Imbalances in key biomarkers may weaken your immune system, leaving you more vulnerable to illness.
  • Brain fog or trouble focusing – Inflammation in the body has been linked to cognitive issues, which may impact your clarity and focus.
  • Weight management challenges – Elevated inflammatory markers can contribute to metabolic difficulties and make it harder to maintain a healthy weight.

What is High Sensitivity C Reactive Protein

(hsCRP)?

The level of C-reactive protein (CRP) in the blood is an indicator of inflammation in the body. The "high-sensitivity" aspect means the test can detect much lower levels of CRP than a standard CRP test, making it useful for identifying low-grade, chronic inflammation that may not be apparent through symptoms.

What is

Ferritin?

Ferritin is an essential protein in our bodies that serves as the primary storage form of iron. Understanding ferritin levels provides insight into two critical aspects of health: iron status and inflammation, both of which play pivotal roles in overall wellbeing and longevity.

What is Grip

Strength?

Grip strength is more than just a measure of hand strength—it’s a key indicator of overall health and longevity. Research shows that good grip strength is associated with reduced risks of chronic diseases, frailty and functional limitations as we age. It is also linked to better cardiovascular health, improved physical performance and even longer life expectancy.

Weak grip strength, on the other hand, has been linked to heightened chronic inflammation, which may be the result of reduced muscle mass, poor physical fitness or musculoskeletal conditions like arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome. It is also linked to progressive muscle loss, a higher risk of falls and fractures in later life and faster age-related decline, leading to fewer years spent in good health.

This test measures the strength of your hand grip using a dynamometer. Good grip strength is associated with a decreased risk of functional limitations and frailty in later life.

Additional

guidance

The grip test cannot be undertaken by customers who have had arm amputations of missing digits. The other components of the test can be undertaken. Customers with bone or joint problems, including arthritis and carpal tunnel, may find the grip strength test uncomfortable or exacerbates symptoms and pain and therefore may decide not to carry out this part of the test.

Inflammation may not always be detectable through blood tests, especially if it is mild or in its early stages. Some forms of inflammation can be localised or intermittent, meaning they may not cause significant changes in inflammation markers. However, elevated levels of specific markers, like CRP or ferritin, can indicate ongoing inflammation, which may be linked to infections, chronic conditions or other health issues.
