Advanced Menopause Profile

Our Advanced Menopause Profile offers an insight of hormonal changes to help determine if you are experiencing the menopause. It can also assist in planning and adjusting hormone replacement therapy (HRT) tailored to your needs. The results should be considered alongside your symptoms and discussed with a GP to address any menopause-related concerns. This package includes a GP Consultation.

Consider taking this test if you have stopped menstruating or if you suspect you may be entering menopause but are unsure due to the presence of a hormonal coil, such as a progesterone only coil. As this test includes testosterone the blood tests must be carried out before 11am, this is because levels of testosterone in the body are determined by the circadian rhythm. If you are still menstruating, please take the test on day 3 of your menstrual cycle (with day 1 being the first day of bleeding). If you have not had a period for more than 2-3 months, you can have the test done on any day.

5 key hormones tested

Consider this test if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: hot flushes or night sweats, mood changes or irritability, sleep disturbances, vaginal dryness, decreased libido. You may also benefit from this test if you are: between 40 and 45 years old with menopausal symptoms, over 45 and have a progesterone only coil in place, between 45-60 and want to check your menopausal status (keeping in mind that current guidelines suggest a blood test is not required to confirm the diagnosis of menopause), considering starting HRT or already on HRT and want to monitor specific hormone. If you are over 60, this test can be used to help you monitor your hormone levels in response to HRT.

Oestradiol is the main naturally occurring oestrogen in your body. Together with regulating the reproductive system and secondary female characteristics, it also has an impact on the health of other tissues and organs including bone, liver, fat and the brain.

Women have lower levels of testosterone in their blood to help maintain hormone balance and regulate other body functions. This test can detect abnormally high or low testosterone levels, which may indicate an adrenal problem. It can also be used to monitor your health if you have had abnormal testosterone results in the past or are taking medications that may affect your testosterone levels.

FSH plays a crucial role in women by promoting egg growth in the ovaries each month and stimulating the production of oestrogen. As a woman approaches menopause, her body gradually stops producing eggs, causing FSH levels to rise. Elevated FSH levels can therefore be an indicator of the onset of menopause, reflecting reduced ovarian function and declining oestrogen production.

This is a carrier protein produced by the liver. Changes in SHGB levels can affect the amount of testosterone that is available to be used by the body. Abnormal SHBG levels can cause mood swings, weight gain, low sex drive and infertility.

TSH, also known as thyrotropin, is a hormone produced in the pituitary gland that triggers your thyroid gland to produce and release hormones. Your thyroid gland is an important endocrine gland responsible for producing and releasing the hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3).
