10 reasons that health assessments should be part of your renewal discussions

If you’re an intermediary dealing with health benefits, you’ve probably got lots of business clients coming up for renewal in the coming months. At Bluecrest Wellness, we think health assessments should be part of those conversations, right alongside PMI, dental plans or cash plans.

1. Rising demand

The pandemic and NHS crisis have led to increasing demand for private health benefits from employees – and from companies trying to attract and retain them. Individuals are looking to their employers to provide some health back-up - but they don’t just want to be patched up when things go wrong.

With waiting lists at a 7.7 million all-time high and GPs harder to see than ever, people are increasingly looking for peace of mind and reassurance about their health. Health assessments essentially give them an MOT - they help people take control of their health, and spot potential health issues early – and we’ve seen demand for them continue to rise.

2. Filling the preventative health gap

Even businesses with a suite of health benefits to choose from may not yet have a preventative element to their strategy – something that actually aims to KEEP people fit and well BEFORE they have a medical condition diagnosed, need treatment and potentially use their PMI. Businesses health and wellbeing strategies are evolving - and preventative health is often the missing link.

3. Usability

PMI is brilliant, but it can be expensive, and no one really WANTS to use it. Who wants to become ill and need medical intervention? And with the incidence of claims going up, the COST of PMI is inevitably creeping up for many customers, too. By contrast, health assessments are relevant for everyone, with no qualifying period they can be accessed instantly from day one, and generally aren’t impacted by medical inflation and high utilisation. People see immediate value, and fast results.

4. Whole of workforce solution

Health assessments are not only a really popular health benefit, but because they start at £99 per person they’re actually really affordable too – making them a viable option for entire workforces. That means businesses you work with can make health-benefit budgets go further , tangibly demonstrate their investment in health and wellbeing, and offer something to everyone rather than just a few.

5. Clear impact

Health assessments WORK. After getting their results, 38% of people go on to lose weight, 37% start exercising more, 32% start eating better, and 14% start cutting back on alcohol.

In 2023, we’ve spotted 7,097 red flags for current or previous H. Pylori infection, which could indicate an increased risk of stomach cancer, and 1,677 red flags for Prostate Specific Antigen indicating an elevated risk of Prostate Cancer. healthier people ultimately mean healthier businesses – whether that’s someone whose improved diet means they get fewer minor illnesses, or someone whose pre-diabetes gets attention that improves their productivity.

6. Actionable data

We don’t just have our own data about health assessments – we provide organisations with THEIR own data, too. If more than 60 people go for their assessment, businesses get anonymised and aggregated MI that can be used to provide insight into company-wide health issues and risks, inform health and wellbeing initiatives, and even track progress year-on-year.

7. Simplicity

We have four simple levels of health assessments, with stable pricing structures so businesses know exactly what they’re getting, and how much it will cost. There’s no P11D liability for employees, and minimal administration. We appreciate your time is precious, so all you really need to do is introduce us, and we’ll do everything else – including promotion and engagement. Plus, we’ll also pay you commission.

8. Accessibility

We can deliver health assessments on site, invite people to more than 2,000 local test venues near their offices or home locations, or have virtual coaches support them to complete their tests at home.

9. Other services

As part of the package, Bluecrest Wellness health assessments come with a 24/7 GP support line, which can become part of a wider suite of health benefits.
