Supporting men to thrive in the workplace

Last updated: 28 May 2025

Men face unique health challenges, including higher risks of heart disease, certain cancers, and mental health issues. Yet, stigma and cultural expectations often prevent open conversations. By fostering a supportive environment, employers can help break down these barriers and promote a healthier, more productive workforce.

1. Promote health assessments

Encourage employees to schedule regular health checks. Bluecrest health assessments are accessible; with 14,000 locations across the UK, your employees are not more than 20 minutes away – encourage them to have a health assessment in their lunchtime for example.

2. Host health and wellbeing workshops

Organise educational sessions on topics like:

  • Nutrition and fitness

  • Mental health and stress management

  • Prostate and heart health

  • Invite healthcare professionals or wellness coaches to lead these sessions, making them interactive and inclusive.

3. Encourage physical activity

Create opportunities for movement during the workday:

  • Launch a step challenge or walking group

  • Offer subsidised gym memberships

  • Provide standing desks or active break reminders. Physical activity not only boosts physical health but also improves mood and reduces stress.

4. Normalise mental health discussions

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Employers can:

  • Provide access to Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs)

  • Train managers to recognise signs of distress

  • Share stories or testimonials that destigmatise seeking help

5. Celebrate Men’s Health Week

Use the week to spotlight men’s health through:

  • Internal newsletters or intranet features

  • Social media campaigns

  • Team-building events focused on wellness. This is a great time to engage male employees and their families in health-related conversations.

Supporting men’s health isn’t just a one-week initiative—it’s a year-round commitment. By taking action during Men’s Health Week 2025, employers can set the tone for a healthier, more inclusive workplace culture.
