Kidney Function Blood Testing

Kidneys play an essential part in sustaining our overall health and wellbeing. They filter the blood, maintain fluid balance, help control blood pressure, and aid the production of urine (which eliminates waste from the body). Kidneys also play an important role in the production of red blood cells and converting vitamin D into the active form that the body can use.

Kidney function tests are generally undertaken with a simple blood test which can even be done at home with a home test kit. They are ideal for monitoring your kidney function or simply checking in on it to ensure that they are working effectively as part of reviewing your overall health.

What does a kidney function test show?

Kidney function can be evaluated with a group of three blood tests, which measure the amount of sodium (salt) and two chemical waste products (urea and creatinine) in the blood. It also comprises of a calculation of eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate), which is a useful way to detect reduced kidney function.

What are home blood tests?

A home blood test consists of a finger-prick kit which can be done from comfort of your own home. You do not need to go to a clinic to do your test as you will be able to take your own blood sample yourself. You can do so by following the simple instructions in your pack.

Private health checks can be taken by anyone who wants to understand what is happening inside of their body. They are therefore a great option for those who are simply looking to have a better understanding of their general health.

It is important to note that our health checks are for people without symptoms. They are not a substitute for the NHS, and you should contact your GP if you are concerned about your health or are experiencing symptoms.

Why should I do a home blood test?

Our home blood tests provide you with an opportunity to track and improve your health. Many conditions are symptomless in the early stages and can be improved with simple lifestyle changes (such as diet changes, supplementation, and exercise). Therefore, pinpointing the areas needing improvement can help avoid complications in the future by giving you the knowledge and motivation needed to improve.

Our home blood tests are particularly cost- and time effective, with low prices starting at £59 only and results available in just 8 days. With no travel needed and a simple step-by-step self-collection process, getting a health check could not be more convenient.
