5 Signs You Have a Weak Immune System

Your immune system plays a vital role in protecting your body against infections and illness. When it is working well, it helps you fight off viruses, bacteria and other harmful invaders. However, if your immune system is weakened, you may find yourself getting unwell more often or taking longer to recover.

A weak immune system does not always cause obvious symptoms, but there are some common signs that may suggest it is not functioning at its best. Below, we outline five signs to be aware of and explain how understanding your immune health can support your overall wellbeing.

1. You get frequent infections

One of the most common signs of a weakened immune system is getting ill more often than usual. This may include frequent colds, flu, chest infections, sinus infections or urinary tract infections.

If your immune system is struggling, it may not respond as effectively to viruses and bacteria, making it harder for your body to fight them off. Repeated or recurring infections can be a sign that your immune defences need support.

2. You take a long time to recover from illness

Everyone gets ill from time to time, but if it takes you longer than expected to recover, it may indicate a weakened immune response. Lingering symptoms, prolonged fatigue after infections or slow wound healing can all suggest that your body is struggling to repair and defend itself.
