Abnormal Screening Results: What Happens Next and How Bluecrest Can Help
Written by: Rachel Rawson, Director of Nursing at Perci Health
Taking part in screening is an important way to look after your health. While an abnormal result might be initially concerning, it doesn't necessarily mean you have cancer. Amber or red results may mean that further checks, conversations or investigations are recommended.
This article explains what might happen after you receive an amber or red result through Bluecrest, and the specialist nurse guidance available to you.
What does an amber or red result mean?
Bluecrest offers a range of screening and cancer-related indicator tests, including qFIT, PSA, HPV and H. pylori. An amber or red result means that something has been identified that may need further attention. Exactly what that means will depend on the test you have had and your individual result.
Importantly, an abnormal result does not necessarily mean that cancer has been found. It may mean that further checks or follow-ups are needed to understand the result more fully.
What happens after an amber or red result?
If your result is amber or red, your report will outline the specific result, explaining what it means and what to do next. You might be advised to discuss the results with your GP or to see a specialist.
If you receive an amber or red cancer-related result, you can also access specialist nurse guidance at no extra cost as part of your Bluecrest service, delivered by Perci Health.
How can your specialist nurse support you?
Your specialist nurse can help you:
- Understand your result and what it may mean
- Understand what may happen next
- Prepare questions for your GP or specialist
- Prepare for follow-up appointments or investigations
- Talk through questions or concerns about the result
The service is designed to help you feel clearer about what happens next and better prepared for any follow-up conversations, tests or investigations.
What does the service cost?
This specialist nurse guidance is included as part of your Bluecrest service, delivered by Perci Health, at no extra cost.
If further investigations confirm a cancer diagnosis, you have the option to continue receiving specialist cancer care through Perci Health's Navigation service, on a self-pay basis.
How can you access the specialist nurse service?
If your screening test has identified an amber or red result, you can access support here. You'll be asked to provide some basic information about the test you took and to upload your report. You'll then be able to book an appointment with your specialist nurse.
Appointments are delivered virtually, giving you a convenient way to speak to an experienced specialist nurse when you need guidance.
