Bluecrest Menopause Hormone Tests: Which is Right for You?
Bluecrest offers two menopause hormone tests for women over 40 with suspected menopause symptoms, or anyone wanting to check their menopause status: a single-marker Menopause Hormone Test, and an in-depth Advanced Menopause Profile that adds four more markers plus a private GP consultation. Here's what each covers and how to choose. For the wider picture on testing, see our guide: Is there a test for menopause?

Menopause Hormone Test (FSH)
Our Menopause Hormone Test looks at follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which promotes egg growth and triggers oestrogen production. An FSH blood test gives insight into the pituitary gland, a key regulator of reproductive hormones, and can help show whether you may be entering menopause.
Advanced Menopause Profile
The Advanced Menopause Profile checks FSH plus oestradiol, sex hormone-binding globulin, testosterone and thyroid-stimulating hormone, and includes a private GP consultation. Together, these give a more detailed view of your hormone health and can help with decisions around HRT, so you can better manage the impact of menopause on daily life.
Why we include a GP consultation
Traditionally, a menopause diagnosis is based on symptoms alone. As Martin Thornton, Chief Medical Officer at Bluecrest, explains: "We know many women want to know what is happening during this time, so our tests offer further insight. We have included a GP consultation as part of our Advanced Menopause Profile, offering women a chance to discuss their results and symptoms, and to establish the right path forward."
Chief Executive Dominique Kent adds: "So many women confuse perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms for burnout or other lifestyle pressures and vice versa. Our menopause hormone tests give women the information they need to understand what is going on for them and take action."
Why menopause testing matters
Research from University College London found that more than 90% of postmenopausal women were never taught about menopause at school, and over 60% only started looking for information once their symptoms had begun. With NHS waiting lists for specialist menopause guidance running to several months, a private test can help you have an informed conversation with a GP about where you are and the options available to you.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the two Bluecrest menopause tests?
The Menopause Hormone Test checks FSH only, for an initial indication. The Advanced Menopause Profile checks five hormones and includes a private GP consultation, for a fuller picture and help planning treatment.
Which menopause test should I choose?
If you want a quick first indication, the FSH-based Menopause Hormone Test is a good start. If you'd like a detailed view and a GP to talk through your results, especially if you're considering HRT, choose the Advanced Menopause Profile.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. Both tests are available privately at Bluecrest clinics across the UK, with no referral needed.
